Day 22 – 8/26/10 Madrid
We headed off to Madrid and checked into our hotel there. The Zenit was a bit modern for my taste but was very nice. Armed with a map, we headed off after purchases a three day metro pass. Getting to the Plaza de Sol was interesting as the connecting subway was under construction, but a fellow passenger was very nice and helped find which bus we should transfer on to arrive at the Plaza.
Walking to the plaza, we spied a Museo del Jamon
which we had viewed the previous night on a Rick Steves DVD. Julie has been carrying all my travel DVDs (about 30) for us to do research on. We stopped in and got a plate of Jamon (ham) which they slice very thin from aged pig legs. Really good!
Anyways, we travelled on to visit the Plaza. Really there is not much there, just a open space of concrete surrounded by offices and stores. We went on to Plaza Mayor which is a little more scenic and walked around a bit. We spied a market next to it and strolled around there as well.

We continued our walk to Palacio Real which was closing up for the day. We noted the opening times as that was on our to do list. We headed back to the hotel because tomorrow was going to be another early day as I was planning to do the Running of the Bulls.
