Day 67 -- 10/10/10 Chiemsee
Heading to Vienna, I decided to stop at Chiemsee to see another one of my buddy’s palace Schloss Herrenchiemsee which actually was costing Ludwig more to build than all the other castles he was building combined. We parked and caught a ferry to the island
where the palace resides. Keeping up with his idea of theme castles, this one was to honor Versailles palace and King Louis XIV so it mimicked many motifs we had seen at Versailles. Cash flows caused the halt of construction here a year before Ludwig died and he only spent about 10 days here. Again we were thwarted by the no photograph rule

and since our group had only four persons in it, it was not possible to get any shots on the sly.
As in the Residenz in Wurzburg, the castle had been partial closed due to the filming of a Musketeer movie with Orlando Bloom and Mila Jovich. It will be interesting to see these building in the film. Anyways, try searching the web for images from this palace as there has to be something out there! The attached museum was also good and Julie did get a shot of Ludwig’s royal robes
and I enjoyed dioramas of selected opera acts and the Wagner information there.
This was just a little stop before heading on to Austria.
